Job Overview Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of an Director of Nursing, the Medical Records Coordinator is responsible for maintaining facility and patient records in an organized and secure manner.

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

Functions:

  • Prepare admission records in conjunction with unit secretary
  • Performs assembly and analysis of discharged medical records
  • Responsible for thinning of active records on a regular basis. Maintains thinned medical record information in an organized and secure manner
  • Responsible for mailing, filing and quality check of physician verbal orders
  • Responsible for release of information according to Massachusetts and HIPPA regulations. Maintains a log for all released information
  • Prepares records for offsite storage and maintains inventory log of stored records
  • Additional similar or related duties may be assigned by a supervisor as are necessary for the wellbeing of the residents

Qualifications:

A minimum of a high school education or high school equivalency diploma. (Required). Prior experience in the long-term care environment (Preferred).

  • Knowledge of policies and procedures and state and federal regulations
